We wanted to do something different with the awesome Para series from Spyderco, So we started with the Para 3. We were actually worried if the color combo would be accepted in the community, but to our surprise, it blew up We sold out of the REC Para 3 in minutes and they now go on the secondary market for almost 4 times the amount of what they were new! Not a week goes by that we don’t get an email, call or message asking for one. We are now following it up with the ever popular Para Military 2!! We are all outdoors men here at REC and wanted to create an “Earthy Tone” look, but not be the generic camo that is on so many knives these days.

This application claims priority of U. The present invention is related to cutting instruments, and more specifically folding knives with locking mechanisms to prevent the inadvertent closure of a knife blade associated with the folding knife. Cutting instruments have been used for centuries by craftsmen, hunters, and others requiring a sharp cutting instrument.

More recently, fixed length knives have been replaced with popular folding knives which generally have two positions. In a first extended position of use, the folding knife cutting blade is extended to expose the blade cutting edge and permit cutting therein. In a second closed position, the cutting edge of the blade is stored within a cavity in the handle portion of the knife, thus preventing the blade from being exposed and providing a cutting instrument which is much shorter in length than a typical fixed blade knife.

Glesser will talk about his product, his business, and share some of the secrets of his success as an innovator. This very interesting evening is one all of our regular attendees have been looking forward to. Glesser has been told Spyderco’s knives are different, peculiar, even out there. And he agrees. Thinking beyond established knife industry barriers allowed Spyderco to introduce new and radical innovations to the knife culture including: One-hand opening, serrations on a folder and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket.

Spyderco is successful for the same reason the most successful businesses in our country are successful – The founders didn’t go into business to rake in a mountain of dough. They were just indulging their passion – a passion for creating knives. Spyderco is definitely out of the norm in the knife industry in its dedication to researching and developing fresh, improved and better performing materials all with function and reliability being key.

Light refreshments will be served. However, a donation for the munchies is appreciated. We will back at our normal space at Golden City Hall for this event. Deborah Deal-Blackwell, A. Andrew L.

I recently dusted off my trusty Caly 3 the other day and clipped it to my waistband. You know how it goes. A new knife arrives and you just have to try it out, then another comes in and the cycle repeats itself. I try to make it a point to deliberately pick up some of the older knives this year and give them another round of EDC. That is what I did with the Caly 3 and -spoiler alert- this design can still go toe-to-toe with the latest and greatest knives.

VG Spyderco has really been expanding their steel selection lately, and the afi market seemed to have embraced high-performance steels lately. I prefer stainless steels, there, I said it. I am the SpyderCollector after all. I love using and carrying my folding knives, but I also like to collect them. And my inner-collector likes to be able to enjoy his knives looking nice. And with VG I get all the performance I need in the suburbs, and then some. With that full flat grind, even when the edge is dull, the blade is so thin you can still make a good cut.

The lock is ambidextrous and the clip is removable, so I get to have a great left-handed knife.

After researching pocket knives for over 60 hours and talking to two people who have reviewed at least knives between them, we tested 28 knives—by slicing up 20 cardboard boxes and peeling 30 apples—and found that the Columbia River Knife and Tool Drifter is the best knife for most people to carry every day. The Drifter offers a compact size and a butter-smooth blade deployment. The grip area works with all hand sizes and remains comfortable even during tough cutting.

The CRKT Drifter shares the two basic characteristics of most of the knives we tested: The blade is about 3 inches long, and you can open and close it with one hand. On paper, the Drifter offers nothing unique, but it excels at all of the small elements that make for a successful knife. The robust metal build of the Zancudo, combined with the excellent ergonomics, makes this the knife of choice for tougher work.

After testing 28 pocket knives in over 60 hours of research, we found the Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) Drifter is the best for most.

Patents Assigned to Spyderco, Inc. Rotational wedge locking mechanism for a folding knife. Patent number: Abstract: A locking mechanism for a folding knife is provided. More specifically, the locking mechanism is a rotational wedge locking mechanism that maintains the folding knife’s blade in an extended position and prevents the blade from inadvertently closing when the knife is in use in the extended position. The rotational wedge locking mechanism also impedes the folding knife from inadvertently opening when the blade is in a closed position of storage.

The rotational wedge locking mechanism generally comprises a lock pin, a means for moving the lock pin, and a biasing member, which work in conjunction with the tang of the blade and the back spacer to securely retain the folding knife in an open or closed position. Type: Grant. Filed: November 14, Date of Patent: April 17, Assignee: Spyderco, Inc.

For some products a clearly readable date marked on the package is essential to determine usability. In some cases the presence of such an “expiration date” is even mandated by law. Knives however, at least in theory, neither improve nor go bad sitting on the shelf, so there is no pressing need to have a date which consumers can read on the package. In fact, most knife dealers do not like the idea of “open dating” as it can cause a potential buyer to either reject, or demand a discount, on a perfectly good knife just because it is “last year’s model”, regardless of the fact that the knife in question has not changed in 20 years.

At the same time, dealers still realize that it is in their best interest to rotate their stock and sell the oldest of any given item first. Thus some method of determining “age” is needed.

Spyderco created many features that are now common in folding knives, including the pocket clip, blade serrations and Spyderco’s trademark opening hole. They.

Spyderco knives is based in Golden, Colorado and has been producing knives since the late-seventies. Their focus is on quality and innovative design — they have been responsible for the introduction of many features found on many pocket knives today such as the pocket clip, serrated blade portions and the hole used for opening. In fact, their first ever folding pocket knife included a hole in the blade which was designed to assist with swift blade deployment using the thumb of a single hand.

Over the years Spyderco has poured huge investment into their development effort and strives to find the perfect steel and handle material for each and every type of knife. Their knives typically feel great in the hand and are usually tremendously robust and resist wear and tear as much as you can hope for. This is why Spyderco remains a hugely popular favorite of knife collectors and enthusiasts throughout the world.

You will also find military and law enforcement personnel tend to have a unique penchant for the Spyderco brand. Now, not all their knives are made in the USA. In fact, a good portion of their knives are now made overseas in locations such as Taiwan, Japan and even Italy. However, this should not be perceived as a drop in standards as production quality remains extremely high at their state of the art facilities in these countries.

Some of the more popular Spyderco products include the Police line which has been a favorite of law enforcement officers for over 25 years; the Delica and Endura lines introduced in which shook the market for their amazing lightweight performance and affordability; the Military line which owner Sal Glesser designed specifically for military personnel and the Native line which is a true marriage of comfort and performance.

Besides these classic favorites check out some of the more recent designs which have won great acclaim in the community. The amazingly affordable Spyderco Tenacious is one of our budget favorites at Knife Informer.
